Context
How do you possibly replace Batman?
Story
He is, inarguably, second only to Superman as the world’s most recognizable comic book character. Recently, Superman did step in for Batman in the Big “G”, but it just wasn’t the same. Batman to be more than a mere vigilante, to be an actual super hero, despite the fact that, technically speaking, he is no more empowered than any other human being. In this issue, you actually find out how one man can make a difference.
Art
The first issue, is mostly told from Robin’s point of view, we shift from one battle to the next. Nightwing and Robin have a moment or two, but from the first panel the overall tone of the story is set. The characters are constantly running (and fighting), and I found myself playing catch up once in a while. Daniel’s art is even more impressive than his writing in this issue.
Things to look for
A new bad dude called “The Black Mask” and a new “Batman”
What might put you off
If you are looking for store and no action, then you will be put off as there is more action than story.
Recommendation
Hands down, you need to see the new “Batman”
